Applications for the 9th Annual Sherman Family Korea Emerging Scholar Lecture competition are now open!

The Korea Society’s Sherman Family Korea Emerging Scholar Lecture Award was established in 2017 through the generous support of the Philip Sherman Family Foundation. The primary goal of the award is to encourage and contribute to the advancement of thought leadership for a new generation of Korea scholars and professionals.

You can view past Scholar Lectures here. If you are interested in applying in the future, immediately below are eligibility requirements and instructions. 

ELIGIBILITY: The Society seeks applications from scholars, researchers and specialists from a wide range of disciplines and backgrounds working in the U.S. Prior awardees have explored topics in the arts, architecture, political science and technology and have included Ph.D. candidates, junior professors (tenure & non-tenure track), researchers and professionals. Former applicants have hailed from colleges and universities, research institutions and non-profit organizations in the U.S.

INSTRUCTIONS: Applicants are required to:

1.  Complete and submit your application which includes a lecture proposal, a CV, and a writing sample.

2. Have two (2) letters of recommendation sent to linda.tobash@koreasociety.org.

Note: 1. It is not necessary to complete the application in one sitting. But, when logging back into the application make sure to click on 'login.' Do not click on 'apply.' Do not click on 'register'.

BENEFITS: The awardee:

Conducts a public, in-person lecture at The Korea Society before a broad audience—the lecture is live-streamed and also recorded to allow ongoing access on the Society’s website and YouTube channel; receives roundtrip air travel to New York City and hotel accommodations for two-nights; receives a $2,500 honorarium; and, most importantly, gains wider visibility for their work while becoming part of a group of distinguished alumni.
